Free Wireless FTW
I moved into a new hostel this morning in Coogee. It’s not as nice as the last one but it’s literally on the beach, there are free beach towels, and - best of all - FREE WIRELESS, BABY! In other awesome news, I may have found a place to stay. It’s about 5 blocks from here, and I’m also looking at another place in Coogee later this evening, so hopefully the next time I...
The Cell Phone Situation
This morning’s main objective was to acquire local cellular service. From what I can tell, there are two main competitors in this category - Vodafone and Telstra. I paid a visit to each, and while they’re both pretty similar in service and price, each visit was a wholly unique experience. Let me explain:
Telstra: Telstra is run by a young group of Japanese gangsters, probably...
Domo arigato, JAL!
I made it to Toyko. The flight was a little taxing, especially towards the end, but it didn’t seem like 15 hours (I was delayed on the runway for 2). There were free movies (Wall-E, Eagle Eye, Vicki Christina Barcelona, other bullshit) and - even better - free booze! Also, the food wasn’t too bad. So all in all, things are going quite well so far.
Alright, kids - I’ve got 2...

I hope I get a chance to talk to one of them on the flight, and that he eventually comes to call me ‘Grasshopper’.
I’ll be in Tokyo in...
The Deets
Details of my travel itinerary are as follows:
Tuesday afternoon: Leave Hicksville for Chicago (approx. 3.5 hours)
Wednesday 8:00 am CST: Take a cab to the airport from hotel
Wednesday 8:05 am CST: make fun of the Cubs, piss off cab driver
Wednesday 10:55 am CST: Depart from O’Hare (13 hours)
Wednesday 10:56 am CST: Check my mothereffin’ plane for mothereffin’...
I'm all packed.
The packing process went much faster than anticipated, thanks to the spatial engineering genius of my father. I was happy to find out that Air Japan allows for a 70 lbs. weight limit per bag for international flights, so my suitcase features a plethora of amazing gear, suitable for adventures both in the outdoors and on the internets, including but not limited to:
One (1) Half-Dome 2 person...

Happy New Year!
New Year ‘09 in Grand Cayman was easily the best New Years celebration I’ve ever been apart of. Thanks to everyone who partied with me and made me do shots.
